You may feel deeply, observe quietly, and carry many emotions within you. Yet when it comes to expressing them in words, they may feel incomplete or unshaped. This course is designed to guide you from raw feeling to structured poetic expression.
You will learn the art of writing ग़ज़ल in Gujarati—understanding its form, discipline, and subtle beauty. Through guided practice, you will explore beher (meter), kaafiya, radif, and the art of expressing depth in limited words.
By the end, you are not just writing verses—you are shaping emotions into poetry.
1. Introduction to Ghazal (પરિચય)
You begin with understanding what a ghazal is and its unique structure. This builds your foundation. You start seeing poetry differently.
2. Understanding Structure (રચના)
You learn about matla, maqta, sher, and the flow of a ghazal. This brings clarity and direction. Your writing becomes structured.
3. The Science of Meter (છંદ-શાસ્ત્ર) Gujarati Ghazal is rooted in Behr. We will how to count “Laghu” (short) and “Guru” (long) syllables. Understanding this “Wazan” (weight) ensures your Ghazal flows like a rhythmic river.
4. Beher (Meter) and Rhythm (છંદ)
You explore meter and rhythm, the backbone of ghazal writing. This develops your sense of poetic balance. Your lines gain musicality. In this course, we will cover –

6. The Soul of the Sher (ભાવ)

7. Kavi’s Eye – We will discuss how to see our day-to-day incidents from a writer’s perspective. You will also learn how to read the ghazals of great poets to learn from them.
8. Practical Advice – You will learn from an experienced poet. So, you will get so many practical tips for developing a writing habit, overcoming writing hurdles, etc.

I have been writing poems and ghazals since 1988. I have read so many great poets and have developed a deeper understanding of poetry over the years.
Along with Gujarati, I have also studied English literature and Sanskrit literature.
